The school year of our children is coming to an end so it is not unusual to see everyone in the home busy doing homework and helping with special projects that the children have to finish yet. The tíos and the house parents dedicate their afternoons, and sometimes their evenings, to help the children finish what they need to do. One of the most important activities is “The Fair of the Nations” (La Feria de Países) which will take place this Friday, and everyone is running around trying to make sure that they do a good job. Each grade level has been designated a country that they are to represent. The students then form small groups and each group presents different aspects of the country such as politics, religion, dress, traditions, food, etc. The parents visit each grade and are able to experience the culture of the said country through the student’s creativity in the decoration of their classroom, the use of the typical dress, and the preparation of traditional dishes. A jury, made up of the principal and several teachers, is in charge of awarding the class who puts forth the most effort in presenting their country.

This activity allows the children to expand their knowledge of other cultures in a unique and creative manner. For our children and staff the day signifies much work and many late nights, but in the end it is something that they enjoy. ¡Trabajando duro!
El año escolar de nuestros chicos está llegando a su fin, por lo que no es de extrañarse ver a todos en La Casa bien ocupados trabajando en tareas y proyectos especiales de los chicos. Los tios y Papás dedican sus tardes, y a veces, las noches, a ayudar a los chicos para que terminen todo lo que tienen que hacer. Una de las actividades más importantes del año es La Feria de Países que sera este viernes y todos corren para hacer un buen trabajo. A cada grado se le asigna un país que debe representar, luego forman grupos pequeños entre los alumnos con el objetivo que cada uno exponga diferentes aspectos de dicho país, tales como: política, religion, vestimenta, tradiciones, idioma, cocina, etc.

Los padres de los alumnos visitan cada grado y pueden experimentar la cultura de ese país de acuerdo a la creatividad que los chicos hayan demostrado al arreglar el salon, usar ropa típica y tener bocadillos propios de ese lugar. Un jurado conformado por la Directora y algunos maestros son los encargados de finalmente premiar al grado que mayor esfuerzo puso en exponer su país.
Esta actividad permite a los chicos ampliar su conocimiento sobre otras culturas y hacerlo en una forma diferente y creativa. Para nuestros niños y el staff significa mucho trabajo y noches de desvelo, pero finalmente es algo que disfrutan.
