Bump, bump, bumpity bump. Those who have visited us know that these words describe the road into our land and even while on our land. Once you survive the river basin road to our land, a one lane dirt road runs from the entrance of our property to the otherside. Bump, bump, bumpity bump. Lately, after a long dry season, the ride may have included a “spin” in the lose soil. Notice we said, “may have” because thanks to an energetic youth team from Faithbridge Church out of Houston, Texas, the first hill up to our homes no longer inlcudes a “spinning of the tires”.
This team worked tirelessly for two weeks digging deep ditches that would turn into lanes, carrying away soil by the wheelbarrow full, filling the ditches with sand, mixing concrete and carrying concrete pavers up the steep hill. Along with our farm workers, they transformed a bumpy hill into a smooth stretch!
We learned a lesson from this team that we will not soon forget. Not only did they day after day return to work hard and sweat, they did so with an attitude of gratitude that they had the priviledge of joining with us to make life better. They found ways to not only endure the day but enjoy the journey as well. From spirit themed days of work to upbeat music to playing games to making sure they were applying what they were learning in their nightly devotional time, they soaked in each day and chose for it to be joyful.
They also spread that joy into the community around the farm. They spent a couple of mornings sharing with a very small two room public school near our land. They played games, shared a story, shared crafts, taught songs and invested in pouring out their best to the students.
The youth program at Faithbridge is called “The Road” so pouring into our road was very fitting! We are thankful for the priviledge to serve together! Thank you 2016 Faithbridge Youth Team!
Bump, bump, bumpity, bump. Los que nos han visitado saben que estas palabras describen el camino a La Finca e incluso el camino en La Finca. Una vez que sobrevive al camino que más parece una rivera, llega a un camino de tierra que se extiende desde la entrada de La Finca hasta el otro lado. Bump, bump, bumpity, bump. Últimamente, después de una larga estación seca, el paseo pudo haber incluido un “giro” en la arena floja. Te diste cuenta que dije “pudo haber tenido” ya que gracias a un dinámico grupo de jóvenes de la Iglesia de Faithbridge de Houston, Texas, la primera colina hasta nuestras casas ya no representa un riesgo de un “giro de los neumáticos”.
Este equipo ha trabajado sin descanso durante dos semanas cavando zanjas profundas que se convertirían en los carriles, cargando carretillas llenas, llenando las zanjas con arena, mezclando cemento y llevando adoquines hasta la colina empinada. Junto con nuestros trabajadores de la Finca, transformaron una colina llena de baches en un tramo liso!
Hemos aprendido una lección de este equipo que no olvidaremos. No solamente trabajaban duro día tras día, lo hicieron con una actitud de agradecimiento sintiendo el privilegio de unirse a nosotros para hacer la vida mejor. Ellos encontraron la manera de soportar no sólo el día, pero disfrutar del viaje también. Desde asignar un tema espiritual a cada día de trabajo, a la música alegre y hacer juegos para asegurarse de que estaban aplicando lo que aprendían en su tiempo devocional de la noche, se entregaron en cada día y eligieron que fuera alegre.
También contagiaron de esa alegría a la comunidad alrededor de la Finca. Pasaron un par de mañanas, compartiendo en una muy pequeña escuela pública de dos salones cerca de nuestra tierra. Ellos jugaron, comparten historias, hicieron manualidades, enseñaron canciones y entregaron lo mejor para los estudiantes.
El programa de jóvenes en Faithbridge se llama “The Road”, de modo que el trabajo en nuestro camino era muy apropiado! Estamos agradecidos por el privilegio de servir juntos! Gracias grupo de jóvenes de Faithbridge!
