The game of life. This is the game that the youth team from Atlanta, GA played all last week. If someone said the word “mine”, they had to do ten push-ups, while the whole team counted. Then it became creative to find ways to ask, “Who’s is this?” Gary even caught them singing the word “mine” during church praise and worship time…and all resigned to give their “ten”. Then things got even more interesting as they added another word, “hot”. We can only tell you that last week brought record breaking temperatures, and the days were long, hot, humid, and sweaty. So, to say the least, there always seemed to be someone down on the ground doing their push-ups. 
But long working days and experiencing a different culture also brought lessons in life. This team hauled dirt, sand, and gravel continuously up the sloped path to the construction site. They formed a chain line and passed almost 2 ton of rock up the hill, some weighing over 60 pounds a piece. They had a five and one-half meter well to fill that will serve as the filter for the septic tank. This is no job anyone would gladly volunteer to do. Yet, they had made the best of the work assigned to them and created fun along the way. 
They also had a chance to absorb life here in El Salvador by understanding why there is such a need to provide a safe family environment for the kids we serve. They also got to put their big hearts to practice by sharing time with the children at La Casa, not only through crafts, sports and water balloons, but also through sharing favorite worship songs and our kids sharing some of theirs. They ended the week by sharing basic food items with our neighbors around the farm. To see the need and be the blessing reinforces in all of us that we are blessed so that we can share the blessing. El juego de la vida. Este es el juego que el grupo de jóvenes de Atlanta, GA jugó la semana pasada. Si alguno decía la palabra ¨mío¨ , tenia que hacer 10 pechadas mientras el resto del grupo contaba. Comenzaron a buscar maneras creativas de descubrir al que se descuidara. Gary los atrapó a todos durante una de las alabanzas del domingo que decía ¨mío¨ todos obedientes hicieron las diez pechadas. Las cosas se pusieron aun más interesantes cuando agregaron otra palabra ¨calor¨. La semana pasada se rompieron todos los records de temperaturas, días largos de calor, humedad y sudor. Así que siempre había alguien haciendo pechadas mientras los demás contaban. 
Pero días de trabajo duro y experimentar una cultura diferente deja lecciones de vida. Este grupo transportó cantidades de ripio, arena y grava todo el día por la empinada cuesta que lleva a la casa en construcción. Formaron una cadena humana para poder transportar casi 2 toneladas de roca, algunas de las piedras pesaban alrededor de 60 libras. Esto para llenar un pozo de cinco metros y medio que servirá como filtro para la fosa séptica. Este no es uno de esos trabajos que todos nos ofrecemos a hacer. Aun así, ellos pusieron todo de su parte para hacer el trabajo de manera divertida. 
También tuvieron la oportunidad de absorber la vida aquí en El Salvador comprendiendo por qué existe tanta necesidad de ofrecer un entorno familiar seguro para los niños que servimos. Pusieron sus corazones para compartir tiempo con los niños de La Casa, y no sólo a través de manualidades, deportes y globos de agua, sino también mediante el intercambio de canciones de adoración favoritas y nuestros niños compartiendo algunos de los suyos. 
Terminaron la semana compartiendo alimentos básicos con nuestros vecinos de los alrededores de La Finca. Ver la necesidad y ser de bendición nos recuerda que somos bendecidos para que podamos compartir la bendición.
