Do you remember what it was like when you packed your belongings and headed out of the door of where you called home and began that next journey in life? Two young ladies in La Casa did just that this past Friday as they moved to the Bridge, our transition home. Although they have been preparing for this step towards independence for months and the drive literally fifteen minutes away, their was definitely a sense of leaving for a foreign land, a little nervous about stepping into a new phase in life.
For the past six months, these two young ladies have participated in life planning workshops, spent many weekends at the Bridge, learned the bus route to school, assumed more responsibilities within La Casa, and talked over and over again about this step towards independence. When Estrella was asked how she felt about the move, she replied with a huge grin on her face, “When I first started thinking about moving, I was a little scared of the changes. However, God has helped to me see the good. When I am asked if I am sad about leaving La Casa, I can tell people that I have learned so much at La Casa that has given me the tools to move forward…and this makes me happy.”
Milagro, their house mom, says that each girl has unique personalities, gifts, and strengths that will help them to succeed as they move towards independence. She says that Estrella is dynamic, a leader, an organizer, and an enterpriser. She is sincere, caring, and very vocal. She says that Silvia is a romantic, a good coordinator and is very studious. She loves to read, listen to music and spend time alone. She values integrity and holds herself and others to high standards.
Both will continue their senior year in high school studies and graduate in November. Both want to continue their studies after high school. We look forward to watching them as they spread their wings and soar! Welcome to the Bridge Estrella and Silvia!
Extiendan sus alas y vuelen alto!
Recuerdas ese día en que empacaste tus cosas y saliste por la puerta de casa para comenzar esa nueva aventura en la vida? Dos de las chicas de La Casa pasaron por ese mismo momento el viernes pasado cuando se mudaron a El Puente, nuestra casa de transición. A pesar de que se han preparado para esto durante meses y que se mudaran a quince minutos de distancia literalmente, se sentía un ambiente de nostalgia como si se fueran a un lugar lejano, con un poco de nervios de dar este nuevo paso.
Durante los últimos seis meses las chicas han estado aprendiendo planificación, visitando El Puente, conociendo la rutas al colegio, asumiendo más responsabilidades en La Casa, y han conversado muchas veces acerca de este paso hacia su independencia. Estrella comentó acerca de esto con una gran sonrisa en sus labios: “Al principio cuando supe que me iba a mudar tenia un poco de temor por el cambio pero ahora se que Dios me ha ayudado, cuando me preguntan si me siento triste por dejar La Casa les contesto que he aprendido mucho aquí y me han dado las herramientas para seguir adelante y eso me hace feliz.”
Milagro la mama de la Casa comenta que cada una tiene una personalidad única, dones y fortalezas que seguro les ayudarán en su vida independiente. Estrella es dinámica, líder, organizadora y empresaria. Muy sincera y afectuosa. Comenta que Silvia es romántica, buena coordinadora y muy estudiosa. Ama la lectura, escuchar música y pasar tiempo a solas. Tiene un elevado estándar de integridad.
Ambas seguirán sus estudios de Bachillerato hasta su graduación en Noviembre, las dos planean seguir estudios universitarios. Esperamos ver que extiendan sus alas y vuelen alto. Bienvenidas a El Puente Estrella y Silvia!
