While listening to the news, reading the newspaper as well as hearing different people talk about the current state my country is in, I have witnessed many Salvadorians, including myself reacting to this as “normal”. All of the corruption and violence that is going on in different parts of this country is now just “common” and the “norm” for a country such as mine.
During my quiet time with God, I asked Him:
WHY have we let this behavior become normal to us? Why have we accepted our defeat instead of putting ACTION and letting YOU take charge and ask YOU to help change our country?
This is what came to my mind..
Isaiah 5:20: Doom to you who call evil good and good evil, Who put darkness in place of light and light in place of darkness, Who substitute bitter for sweetand sweet for bitter!
It’s really sad to see how lost my own people are. But for me, it’s even more sad to feel how strong the spirit of death and fear is here. It seems as if the spirit of death has taken over the country. The statistics say that over 60% of the population confesses that they are Christians. However, to my knowledge of what it means to be a Christian, that’s not what we are seeing here.
So while I was talking with God, he gave me this example that I am sure we have all heard before. A plant. Have you ever examined a plant before? Most of them look so pretty and perfectly planted from the outside but their roots become weak IF they are not constantly watered, provided with sunlight and taken care of. Otherwise, you are easily able to tug at the stem and rip the entire plant out.
This too, is what usually happens to us. When trials and circumstances come into our lives and make us stumble, we let things fill us up that aren’t from God and they generally end up taking control of our lives. When things get tough or when violence and corruption take over a country we feel defeated and fill ourselves up with things that are not from God.
Things would be very different if we let God be the one who is watering our plants (us) every day. I believe that we have been called to be the channel for God’s love. That part of our purpose was to come to earth and completely flood it with His love.
A few days ago, I heard someone say this quote: “Only those who will risk going far with God can find out how deep and far one can go with him”.
So for the month of April I want to challenge you to take a risk. God has called us to take this risk and get out of our confort zones and be the light. He has called us to be deeply rooted in him. He has called us to go to Him for our nutrients, sunlight and watering. To help change a nation.
Matthew 5:14-16 (MSG)
Here’s another way to put it: “You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-Colours in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.”

Specific Prayers for the country of El Salvador
Mientras escucho las noticias, leo el periódico, así como escuchar diferentes personas hablan sobre el estado actual de mi país, he sido testigo de muchos salvadoreños, entre ellos yo, en reaccionar a esto como “normal”. Toda la corrupción y la violencia que está ocurriendo en diferentes partes de este país es ahora sólo “común” y la “norma” para un país como el mío.
Durante mi tiempo a solas con Dios, le pregunté: ¿Por qué hemos dejar que este comportamiento se convierta en algo normal para nosotros? ¿Por qué hemos aceptado la derrota en vez de ponernos en acción y hacernos cargo y ayudar a cambiar nuestro país?
Esto es lo que vino a la mente. Isaías 5:20: “!!Ay de los que a lo malo dicen bueno, y a lo bueno malo; que hacen de la luz tinieblas, y de las tinieblas luz; que ponen lo amargo por dulce, y lo dulce por amargo!”
Es realmente triste ver cómo mi propia gente esta perdida. Pero para mí, es aún más triste de sentir lo fuerte que el espíritu de la muerte y el miedo está aquí. Parece como si el espíritu de la muerte se ha apoderado del país. Las estadísticas dicen que más del 60% de la población confiesa que son cristianos. Sin embargo, a mi conocimiento de lo que significa ser un cristiano, eso no es lo que estamos viendo aquí.
Así, mientras yo estaba hablando con Dios, El me dio este ejemplo que estoy seguro que todos hemos oído antes. Una planta. ¿Alguna vez ha examinado una planta antes? La mayoría de ellas se ven tan bonita y perfectamente plantadas desde el exterior, pero sus raíces se debilitan si no se riegan constantemente, siempre con la luz solar y cuidados. De lo contrario, alguien puede halarla y arrancarla fácilmente.
Esto también, es lo que suele ocurrirnos a nosotros. Cuando las pruebas y las circunstancias llegan a nuestras vidas y nos hacen tropezar, dejamos que las cosas que no son de Dios nos llenen el corazón y por lo general terminan tomando el control de nuestras vidas. Cuando las cosas se ponen difíciles o cuando la violencia y la corrupción toma control de un país que siente derrotado, nosotros mismos llenamos nuestro corazón con cosas que no son de Dios.
Las cosas serían muy diferentes si dejamos que Dios sea el que está regando las plantas (nosotros) todos los días. Creo que hemos sido llamados a ser el canal para el amor de Dios. Es parte de nuestro propósito en la tierra, inundarla con su amor.
Hace unos días, oí a alguien decir esta cita: “Sólo aquellos que se arriesgan a ir muy lejos con Dios puede encontrar la manera y la magnitud de hasta dónde se puede ir con El”.
Así que a partir del mes de Abril quiero desafiarles a tomar un riesgo. Dios nos ha llamado a tomar este riesgo y salir de nuestras zonas de confort y ser luz. Él nos ha llamado a estar arraigados en él. Él nos ha llamado a ir a Él para buscar nuestros nutrientes, la luz del sol y el agua. Para ayudar a cambiar una nación.

Aquí hay otra manera de decirlo: “Vosotros sois la luz del mundo; una ciudad asentada sobre un monte no se puede esconder. Ni se enciende una luz y se pone debajo de un almud, sino sobre el candelero, y alumbra a todos los que están en casa. Así alumbre vuestra luz delante de los hombres, para que vean vuestras buenas obras, y glorifiquen a vuestro Padre que está en los cielos.”.
