I feel blessed to be working in an environment where my perspective is daily renewed.  I celebrated 7 years of service in El Salvador on January 30^th and have understood the simple importance of loving God, loving others and constantly learning. Two weeks ago, one of our 14 year old girls came into my office wanting to talk.  I asked her to sit down and listened as she shared her feelings about a recent trip that we had made to visit her biological family.  She

had been “dropped off” in La Casa de mi Padre when she was 3 years of age and was reintroduced to her family in an emotional reunion last year.  There were many expectations and a deep desire to form a deep and meaningful relationship with her mother and siblings.  However, her family continues to struggle with past addictions and poor choices, which limit them from developing healthy relationships.  Over Christmas, I brought her to visit her family, only to find her 17 year old sister pregnant for the second time, and her mother in a rut once again.  I was worried that the visit may have caused our girl an emotional setback.  To my surprise, she told me that she was grateful for the visit and that she had finally realized God’s purpose in bringing her to La Casa de mi

An emotional family encounter / Un emotivo encuentro familiar.

Padre.  She said that before meeting her biological family, she felt useless in the world.  However, when she was given the opportunity to meet her family, she understood that instead of being abandoned, God had really been protecting her from repeating the destructive behaviors of her mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She said that she is now thankful to God and is working harder than ever in school to be able to receive a good education and provide for her family in the future.  She said that her dream is to be able to build a big house for her family and for her to live next door.  She concluded by saying, “Kathryn, I know my family is where they are because they don’t have Jesus.  If they had Jesus, everything would be different.”

What a wakeup call!  May the Lord continue to renew His purpose for our lives, and may we ever be grateful for His faithfulness and presence.

Celebré 7 años de servir como misionera en El Salvador el 30 de enero pasado y he comprendido la simple importancia de amar a Dios, amar a otros y el aprendizaje constante.  Hace algunas semanas, una de nuestras niñas de 14 años entró a mi oficina con el deseo de conversar. Le pedí que se sentara y escuché lo que ella sintió en un viaje que habíamos hecho recientemente para visitar a su familia biológica. Ella fue “dejada” en La Casa de mi Padre cuando tenía 3 años y fue presentada a su familia nuevamente en una reunion muy emotiva el año pasado. Habían muchas expectativas y un deseo profundo de formar una relación significativa con su madre y sus hermanos; sin embargo, su familia continua luchando con sus adicciones del pasado y malas decisiones, lo cual limita su capacidad para desarrollar relaciones saludables. En Navidad la llevamos a visitar a su familia, solo para darnos cuenta que su hermana de 17 años estaba embarazada por segunda vez y su madre estaba en un “bache emocional” nuevamente. Me preocupé pensando que hacer esa visita solo le habría causado a nuestra chica un retroceso. Para mi sorpresa, ella me dijo que estaba agradecida por la visita y que finalmente se había dado cuenta del propósito que Dios tuvo al traerla a La Casa de mi Padre. Ella dijo que antes de conocer a su familia biológica, se sentía inútil en el mundo. Pero cuando tuvo la oportunidad de conocer a su familia, ella comprendió que en lugar de haber sido abandonada, Dios

la había protegido de repetir las conductas destructivas de su madre, su abuela y su bisabuela. Dijo que ahora se siente agradecida con Dios y está trabajando aún más en el colegio para recibir una buena educación y así poder proveer para su familia en el futuro. También me dijo que su sueño es construir una gran casa para su familia y poder vivir en la casa de al lado. Nuestra conversación terminó diciéndome:  Kathryn, yo sé que mi familia está donde está porque no tienen a Jesús…, si ellos lo conocieran, todo sería diferente. ¡Qué llamada de atención!

Que el Señor continue renovando  Su propósito para nuestras vidas y que siempre estemos agradecidos por Su fidelidad y Su presencia.
