One of the characteristics that most of our children share is that they haven’t had a formal education before coming to La Casa. When we send them to school, most of them end up attending a lower grade they are supposed to according to their age. Usually, our children are from one to three grades behind.
This time I would like to share with you the story of two children: William and Agustin,

they were both over aged for the grade they were attending. William attended 5th grade and was 15 years old, and Agustin attended 1st grade and was 11 years old.
Along with the school, the team at La Casa discussed their case and decided to present them with the opportunity to take a series of exams that the Salvadoran education system allows for children/teenagers who are in similar conditions as our two boys. They had the opportunity to present exams in Language, Social Studies, Science and Math. Agustin completed his exams successfully in his second try and William in his third one. “Both of them did a great job, they really made an effort and were able to overcome big challenges such as keep studying their current grade and still study a lot of material for the special exams”, says Roberto, tutor at La Casa. “I think the key elements that made this possible were having individual support through tutoring two times a week with each of them for months before the exams took place, the interest they showed and their willingness to work hard. We plan to keep supporting them throughout the year with individual tutoring. The children feel very good with themselves and keep on doing an effort to face their new challenges”.
We are very proud of William and Agustin and celebrate their achievement. We look forward to see what God will do in the lives of these children in the future.

Una de las características que muchos de nuestros niños comparten es que tuvieron poca o ninguna educación formal antes de venir a La Casa. Cuando los enviamos al colegio, la mayoría termina asistiendo a un grado menor al que debieran de acuerdo a su edad. Usualmente, nuestros niños tienen un retrazo académico de uno hasta tres grados.
En esta ocasión, me gustaría compartir la historia de dos de nuestros chicos: William y Agustín, ambos tenían sobre edad para el grado al que asistían. William iba a 5º grado con 15 años y Agustín iba a 1º con 11 años de edad.
El equipo de La Casa junto con las autoridades del colegio discutimos su caso y decidimos ayudarles a que presentaran un examen de suficiencia en las 4 materias básicas: Lenguaje, Estudios Sociales, Ciencias y Matemáticas. Agustín completó sus exámenes exitosamente en su segundo intento, y William, en su tercero. “Ambos hicieron un buen trabajo, realmente se esforzaron y pudieron superar grandes retos

como sobrellevar la doble carga”, comenta Roberto, Tutor en La Casa. “Creo que los elementos clave para que ésto fuera posible fueron tener apoyo individual con tutorías dos veces por semana con cada uno meses antes que los exámenes se llevaran a cabo, el interés que ambos mostraron y su disposición de trabajar duro. Los niños se sienten bien consigo mismos y siguen esforzándose para enfrentar los nuevos retos que tienen delante de ellos”.
Estamos muy orgullosos de William y Agustín y celebramos su triunfo académico con ellos. Estamos ansiosos por ver lo que Dios seguirá haciendo en las vidas de estos chicos en el futuro.
