“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves” Philippians 2:3
We’ve had many volunteers share their time with La Casa over the years. Some speak Spanish fluently, others are learning. Some are young, some older, some very creative, some who love sports, some who are shy, some who are very social. Despite our differences, special friendships blossom. Volunteering is also a learning experience, an opportunity to grow. In giving, we also receive. We get to know each other and expand our knowledge about other cultures and learn how similar we all really are.
These were all things we learned through Sarah, a special volunteer in the girls’ home. She helped our girls with homework two afternoons each week. This help was a blessing to us, and the girls also learned about another culture, Sarah’s homeland, England. The girls were always fascinated by not only her accent, but her stories about her home. From Sarah’s perspective, she says that in giving she also received so much more. Her life was touched, and her experience changed how she views the world.
Sharing with each other has been special. Sarah is traveling back to her home country, and she is going to be missed! Her gentle, caring spirit has been an inspiration. Thank you Sarah for sharing not only your time, but your heart with us at La Casa! Feliz viaje!
