The ministry of La Casa de Mi Padre exemplifies the call by Christ in Matthew 25:40: “Whatever you have done for the least of these brothers of mine you’ve done for me.” Please understand, the kids of La Casa are not the least by God’s standard; however, they often are the least by the world’s standard. And at La Casa, their aim is transformation and reconciliation because of God’s amazing grace.

This is our youth group’s third trip with La Casa. Each year we invite our rising high school senior class to participate in an out-of-country mission trip to allow God to ‘open our eyes’ to great need, to amazing provision, and to the reality of thanksgiving that ought occupy our hearts. I appreciate how Gary Powell phrases it, “We tell groups that God’s going to do heart surgery on them.” And he has and still is…so we trust, will continue to do so.
I continually am amazed of how God breaks us down, only to build us back up better than before. We too often settle for the good or mediocre when he wants to give us the excellent, or “life to the full” (John 10:10). This is life as God intends it…for he is the author and creator of all things. And part of life to the full is caring for others – for the least of these. James calls acceptable religion (which as believers we all should strive for) as “looking after orphans and widows in their distress” (James 1:27).
New friends / Nuevos amigos
You may have heard that it’s been raining here…a lot. And so all aspects of our trip have changed – from our plans to God’s. We’ve seen Proverbs 19:21 come true: “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.” And God’s purpose has prevailed, which makes me excited to see what will happen in these coming months, years, and lifetimes.
Our group has grown to LOVE the kids of La Casa – and each has a favorite they’ll attempt to smuggle onto our plane on Saturday. They all desire to return (and some plan to not even board the flight) and while that may not be an eventual reality, I do see that all are changed. We may have future missionaries within our group – only time (and God’s tug) will tell. While not all can GO into the mission field, all can PARTICIPATE…by SENDING. And I do believe that we have created life long supporters of ministry to the least of these. For each of us can definitively state that La Casa es MI casa.

El ministerio de La Casa de mi Padre ejemplifica el llamado de Dios en Mateo 25:40: “Les aseguro que todo lo que hicieron por uno de mis hermanos, aun por el más pequeño, lo hicieron por mí.” Por favor entienda, los niños de La Casa no son los más pequeños por el estándar de Dios; sin embago, muchas veces son por el estándar del mundo. Y en La Casa, su propósito es la transformación y reconciliación por la maravillosa gracia de Dios.
Este es el tercer viaje de nuestro grupo de jovenes a La Casa. Cada año, les invitamos a los estudiantes al punto de empezar su último año de bachillerato a participar en un viaje misionero fuera del país para que Dios “abra los ojos”…a la necesidad grande, a la provisión impresionante, a la realidad de la gratitud que debe ocupar nuestros corazones. Me gusta como dice Gary Powell, “Les decimos a los grupos que Dios va a hacer cirugía del corazón en ellos.” Y lo ha hecho y todavía lo está haciendo; entonces confiamos, y vamos a continuar confiando.

Siempre me sorprende como Dios nos quebranta, sólo para edificarnos mejor que antes. Muchas veces nos conformamos con lo bueno o lo mediocre cuando Dios quiere darnos lo excelente, o sea, “la vida en abundancia” (Juan 10:10). Esta es la vida como Dios ha intentado, porque él es el autor y creador de todas las cosas. Y parte de la vida en abundancia es amar a los demás – para el más pequeño. Santiago llama la religión aceptable (la cual nosotros como creyentes debemos seguir) como “atender a los huérfanos y a las viudas en sus aflicciones” (Santiago 1:27).

Quizás usted ya haya oído que aquí ha estado lloviendo mucho. Entonces todos los aspectos de nuestro viaje han cambiado desde nuestros planes hasta los del Señor. Hemos visto la verdad de Proverbios 19:21: “El corazón humano genera muchos proyectos, pero al final prevalecen los designios del Señor.” Y han prevalecido los designios de Dios, el cual me emociona para ver lo que sucederá en los días, meses, y vidas siguientes.
Nuestro grupo ha llegado a AMAR a los niños de La Casa, y cada uno tiene un favorito que intentará pasar de escondidas en nuestro avión el sábado. Todos desean regresar, (y aun hay unos que están pensando en no embarcar el avión), y mientras que eso probablemente no sea una realidad, puedo ver que todos han cambiado. Quizás algunos de ellos serán misioneros en el futuro – sabemos con el tiempo y el llamado de Dios. Aunque no todos pueden IR como misionero, todos pueden PARTICIPAR por ENVIAR.
Creo que hemos creado partidarios de toda la vida del ministerio al cual más pequeño. Por eso, cada uno de nosotros puede decir definitivamente que La Casa es MI casa.
