We celebrate Father’s Day on June 17th each year in El Salvador. This year, that date falls on a Wednesday, this Wednesday to be exact. In a country where the majority of children live without a father figure present in their lives, the government made this day a national holiday, a day off from work to raise awareness of the importance and responsibility of a father. We, too, at La Casa de mi Padre feel like the father role in a family is extremely important. Statistics show that children who grow up without a father figure often do not finish their school years, are more likely to become addicted to alcohol and other substances, and are more likely to join the ever increasing number of gang members where they seek acceptance and belonging. We see the consequences of this reality every day here in El Salvador.
It was these very facts and the desire for our children to know our Lord intimately that La Casa got its very name. When someone asked the children that we serve, “Where do you live?”, they could reply, “In my Father’s House.”
Not only does our name have reference to the importance of a Christian father figure, but so does our model. Houseparents, both a mom and dad, oversee each of our homes. We are very proud of our dads who, counter to what culture would do, have stepped up and are not only amazing dads to their own biological children, but each of them have opened their arms wide to embrace a group of children. Our children have the opportunity to have a father figure in their lives in a daily basis. We are even more excited that as we move to our land, our children with live in homes with their houseparents 24/7.
Let’s give a big shout out to the dads who have been called to be role models in the lives of the children who live in our homes. We love you Juan Carlos, Ceferino, and Trevor!

El 17 de Junio se celebra anualmente el Día del Padre en El Salvador. Este año la celebración se realiza un miércoles, éste miércoles para ser exactos. En un país en el que la mayoría de los niños viven sin una figura paterna presente en sus vidas, el Gobierno ha hecho de este día una celebración considerada un asueto nacional, un día en el que se busca reconocer la importancia y responsabilidad de un padre. Nosotros también, en La Casa sentimos que el papel de un padre en la familia es de extrema importancia. Las estadísticas muestran que los niños que crecen sin una figura paterna generalmente no finalizan sus estudios académicos, tienden a crear adicciones a alcohol y otras sustancias y aumenta el riesgo de unirse a las pandillas buscando aceptación y pertenencia. Estas son las consecuencias que vemos día tras día acá en el Salvador.
Estos hechos y el deseo de que los chicos que servimos tengan una relación íntima con nuestro Señor es el motivo que nos movió a nombrar nuestra Fundación. Cuando alguien le pregunte a los chicos que servimos, “¿Dónde vives?” pueden responder “en La Casa de mi Padre”.
No solamente nuestro nombre hace referencia a la importancia de una figura de un padre con valores cristianos sino nuestro modelo de trabajo. Los padres de hogar, padre y madre, supervisan el funcionamiento de las casas.
Estamos muy orgullosos de nuestros papás que, en contra de lo que la cultura haría, han superado todo trasfondo cultural y no son sólo papás asombrosos a sus propios hijos biológicos, pero cada uno de ellos han abierto sus brazos para abrazar a un grupo de niños. Los niños a los que servimos tienen la oportunidad de tener una figura paterna en su vida. Estamos aún más emocionados que a medida que avanzamos en el proceso de transición a La Finca, vemos má cercano que los niños vivan cons sus padres 24/7.
Damos un gran gracias! a los papás que han sido llamados a ser modelos a seguir en la vida de los niños que viven en nuestros hogares.
