A few days ago I went to see the WWII movie, “Dunkirk”. It was intense and at times difficult to continue watching as the British Army and Allied troops were trapped at Dunkirk, with no apparent way to escape the ever-coming attacks from their enemy.
Although it was not apparent in the movie, a National Day of Prayer was called and millions across the UK prayed for the deliverance of the 400,000 men. Their prayer was answered as Hitler abruptly called off the pursing tanks, thinking the air attacks could do the job of killing the soldiers awaiting evacuation. Then a violent storm grounded the planes that had been bombing the ships and men on the beach and allowed for many thousands to be rescued. At the same time, the English Channel waters calmed and hundreds of “tiny ships” (civilian boats, fishing vessels, yachts, life boats, etc.) crossed over and aided larger ships to rescue 338,000 soldiers, ten times as many as they had hoped to save. Many still refer to this as “the miracle of Dunkirk”.
This movie led me to thinking about La Casa. We often face difficult situations too, especially during the summer months as donations “slump” and we have to consider how to maneuver through. No, we are not in World War II, but it does seem to often be a spiritual battle. It is a battle for hearts.
Thankfully, we can count on those of you who pray for us and the participation of many “tiny ships” (personal donations, mission groups and sponsors) that help us make it through. Just like at Dunkirk, it was those that thought they could not do much to help, but decided to offer their “tiny ships” anyway, that made the difference. Many people banned together and were able to see God’s hand at work in a miraculous way. That is a great representation of those who ban together to allow the work at La Casa to go on and continue to impact children and their families lives in significant ways. We are grateful for every single one of you that contribute to us at La Casa through your prayers and financial support. You are our “ships”!

Hace unos días fui a ver la película de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, “Dunkirk”. Fue intenso y a veces difícil seguir viendo como el ejército británico y las tropas aliadas estaban atrapados en Dunkerque, sin ninguna manera aparente de escapar de los ataques que venían de su enemigo.
Aunque no fue evidente en la película, se convocó a un Día Nacional de Oración y millones de personas en todo el Reino Unido oraron por la liberación de los 400.000 hombres. Su oración fue contestada cuando Hitler detuvo abruptamente a los tanques, pensando que los ataques aéreos podrían hacer el trabajo de matar a los soldados que esperaban la evacuación. Entonces una violenta tormenta impidió el despegue de los aviones que habían estado bombardeando a los barcos y hombres en la playa y permitió que miles de personas fueran rescatadas. Al mismo tiempo, las aguas del Canal de la Mancha se calmaron y cientos de “naves minúsculas” (barcos civiles, barcos de pesca, yates, botes salvavidas, etc.) cruzaron y ayudaron a buques más grandes a rescatar a 338.000 soldados, diez veces más de los que ellos pensaban salvar. Esta película me llevó a pensar en La Casa. A menudo nos enfrentamos a situaciones difíciles también, especialmente durante los meses de verano, cuando las donaciones se reducen y tenemos que considerar cómo coordinar el presupuesto a pesar de eso. No, no estamos en la Segunda Guerra Mundial, pero parece ser a menudo una batalla espiritual. Es una batalla por los corazones.
Afortunadamente, podemos contar con aquellos de ustedes que oran por nosotros y con la participación de muchos “pequeños barcos” (donaciones personales, grupos de misiones y patrocinadores) que nos ayudan a lograrlo. Al igual que en Dunkerque, fueron los que pensaron que no podían hacer mucho para ayudar, pero decidieron ofrecer sus “naves minúsculas” de todos modos, eso hizo la diferencia. Muchos trabajaron juntos y fueron capaces de ver la mano de Dios de una manera milagrosa. Esa es una gran representación de aquellos que trabajan juntos para permitir que el trabajo en La Casa siga y continúe impactando de manera significativa a los niños y sus familias. Estamos agradecidos por cada uno de ustedes que apoyan a La Casa a través de sus oraciones y apoyo financiero. Ustedes son nuestros “barcos”!
