New child care laws were placed into effect in 2011 here in El Salvador. New laws meant change, and one of the effects was that all children’s homes needed to be re-accredited. It took time for restructuring the child care system and for regulations to be established. The accredidation process was presented in late 2012, and La Casa began working towards
meeting the long list of requirements at the beginning of 2013. Our staff underwent training in the new law. Teams and local businesses helped us purchase and install new and adequate fire extinguishers, evacuation signs, new storage for our kitchens and other items needed to make our home even safer and healthier for our children. Multiple 
inspections from the fire department and health department were passed. Police background checks were secured. An OPAMMS (zoning) inspection was passed. Legal documentation and accounting data was all collected.
Finally, in October of last year, we were able to be one of the first homes to submit their packet to CONNA, the government committee that is the ultimate authority over child care. It took a few months to then go through the process with CONNA, but last week, we received a call that we were officially accredited under the new law. Another milestone completed! A partir del año 2011 en El Salvador se han implementado nuevas leyes de cuidado de la niñez. Nuevas leyes significan cambios, y uno de los efectos ha sido que todos los hogares de niños necesitan ser acreditados bajo los nuevos parámetros. Tomó tiempo
reestructurar el sistema de cuidado de los chicos de acuerdo a los requisitos. Comenzamos el proceso a finales de 2012 y todos en La Casa comenzamos a trabajar desde principios del año 2013 para poder cumplir con todos los requisitos del listado. Nuestro personal se capacitó en las nuevas leyes. Grupos y empresas locales nos ayudaron a adquirir e instalar los extintores, ubicar la señalización de emergencia, crear bodegas para las cocinas y otros 
elementos necesarios para hacer nuestro hogar más seguro y saludable para nuestros chicos. Tuvimos varias inspecciones del Departamento de Bomberos y de Salud. Se presentaron los documentos de antecedentes penales, y una inspección de la OPAMMS. Recolectamos toda la documentación necesaria. Finalmente, en Octubre del año pasado, fuimos de los primeros hogares en entregar el paquete completo al CONNA, el ente del gobierno que representa la mayor autoridad en el cuidado de la niñez.
El proceso tomó algunos meses pero la semana pasada recibimos una llamada confirmando que habíamos sido acreditados oficialmente bajo las nuevas leyes. Otro logro obtenido!
