The following is a letter from Salvador who is participating in a YWAM discipleship training program here in El Salvador for the next several months. He is required to raise support for the final part of the program, a mission’s trip to the Dominican Republic. We are proud of Salvador and his heart to serve. One day Gary sat me down in his office and told me about an opportunity to study missions. It really wasn’t something that I was expecting at that time, but I have always had the desire in my heart to give my life in service for the Lord. In a short period of time, I began the process to enroll in the training program by filling out the application and interviewing with the directors of the program. They were able to explain more about the program, and I knew that this was something I wanted to do. In the beginning, my old self began to fear the changes ahead as I would have to live at the YWAM (Youth With a Mission) base for four months, leaving the transition home for this period of time. Most of you know I do not like change, but God began to prepare me for the time I would be away. I have now been here for three weeks and everything is going well.

These weeks have been a time for me to grow closer to God. I know becoming a missionary is a serious decision and requires a lot of thought. It is about giving up my own time for the service of others who may even reject the Gospel that I want to share with them. I am counting the cost, but I truly want to be a missionary to share the immense love of God and all that He has done in my life.

At the end of my three months of discipleship and study, I have the opportunity to take a mission’s trip to the Dominican Republic where I will be able to put into practice all that I have learned in my classes. The purpose of the trip is to share God’s Word through dramas, messages, and Christian videos. I trust God completely to provide financially for this trip to happen.
