“Time flies” is a saying that we can relate to in life. We take an airplane flight to get to our destination in record time, and for us at La Casa we certainly feel like we have taken a plane ride from November to mid-January. We just celebrated graduations and a break from the school routine when the time to begin a new school year was right upon us. We bet you know that feeling when summer winds down and the rush to find the long list of school supplies, even those items that seem to be found nowhere in your city, pack everything into a backpack and finally send your child off for another year of learning and growing. You then wonder how it could all happen so fast. Yes, that is how we are feeling at La Casa!

January is also the month where money does literally slip through the bank account with enrollemnt fees, first month of tuition costs, uniforms, dress and P.E shoes, long lists of school supplies including every kind of paper imaginable, backpacks, and all the work that goes into getting a whole crew of kids ready for their new year. That’s 23 children, teenagers and young adults heading into a new year of learning! It doesn’t happen without significant help, both financially and physically. This year, we are grateful for our friends in Germany (Berlinprojekt), who helped raise a significant part of our Back-to-School costs, a Samaritan’s Purse grant, our partners from Atlanta, and all of you who sponsor a child in the area of education. We are very thankful for hearts that help in big ways!

All of this requires one intense effort. We are so very thankful to a group from GlobalX out of Atlanta, GA who blessed us with their help by collecting some of the school supplies needed, choosing backpacks for each child and flying all the way to visit with us, wrap hundreds of books in colors designated by the schools and then plastic to preserve them in the tropical climate for a year, and love on our kids their last days of our summer vacation. They poured their hearts right into ours last week. Please enjoy a quick slide show of their week with us as we shout out a special “Thank you!” They even packed in a day at our transition home helping to give it a desparately new coat of paint in several rooms. They were definately here on a “mission” to serve!

We’d love for you to join us in prayer for our children’s new year of school. Our girl’s are all attending two new schools while the boys will be attending five different schools to meet all of their individual needs. That’s seven schools! (Our houseparents have children on school, too, so that brings the total to nine different schools.) Try and create a calendar for that scheduling! “El tiempo vuela” es un dicho que podemos aplicar en la vida. Tomamos un vuelo en avión para llegar a nuestro destino en un tiempo récord, y para nosotros en La Casa ciertamente sentimos que hemos tomado un viaje en avión desde Noviembre hasta mediados de Enero. Acabamos de celebrar graduaciones y disfrutamos un breve descanso de la rutina de la escuela cuando ya llegó el momento para comenzar un nuevo año escolar. Estamos seguros que usted conoce esa sensación cuando no termina de disfrutar las vacaciones y llega la prisa por encontrar la larga lista de útiles escolares, incluso los artículos que parece que no se encuentran en ningún lado, empacar todo en una mochila y, finalmente, enviar a su hijo a un año más de aprendizaje y madurez. Y es en ese momento cuando se pregunta… como pasó tan rápido? Sí, así es como nos sentimos en La Casa!

Enero es también el mes donde el dinero literalmente desaparece de nuestras carteras, en matrículas, mensualidades, uniformes, zapato, tenis, largas listas de útiles escolares, incluyendo todo tipo de papel imaginables, mochilas, y todo el trabajo que implica conseguir toda una tripulación de niños listos para su nuevo año. Eso es 23 niños, adolescentes y adultos jóvenes de cara a un nuevo año de aprendizaje! Esto no sucede sin la ayuda significativa, tanto financiera como físicamente. Este año, estamos agradecidos por nuestros amigos de Alemania (Berlinprojekt), quienes ayudaron a levantar una parte significativa de nuestros costos de regreso al colegio, el dinero de Samaritan´s Purse, nuestros amigos de Atlanta, y todos los que patrocinan a un niño en el área de la educación. Estamos muy agradecidos por los corazones que ayudan en gran manera!

Todo esto requiere de un esfuerzo intenso. Estamos muy agradecidos con un grupo de GlobalX de Atlanta, GA, que nos bendijo con su ayuda mediante la recopilación de algunos de los útiles escolares necesarios, la elección de las mochilas para cada niño y volar todo el camino para trabajar junto con nosotros, forrando cientos de libros de los colores designados por las escuelas y luego en plástico para que no se dañen en el clima tropical durante un año, y disfrutar dando amor a los chicos en sus últimos días de vacaciones de verano. Ellos derramaron sus corazones.

Esperamos que disfruten de esta presentación rápida de su semana con nosotros mientras damos un especial “¡Gracias!” Incluso ayudaron un día en la Casa de Transición a darle una necesaria nueva capa de pintura en varias habitaciones. Sin duda que su misión era servir!

Le pedimos que nos acompañe en oración por este nuevo año escolar de los chicos. Las niñas estarán asistiendo a dos nuevos colegios, mientras que los chicos estarán asistiendo a cinco diferentes colegios esto porque varios tienen necesidades individuales. Eso quiere decir siete diferentes colegios! (Nuestros padres de hogar tienen hijos en otros colegios también, lo que hace un total de nueve colegios diferentes.) Imagínese crear un calendario y programación!
