Last year between September and October the cost of water doubled over night in El Salvador. We had no previous notice and what was already a difficult bill to pay, became even more so. This, coupled with the fact that we were just entering the dry season meant that we would have to be even more diligent in our stewardship of this precious essential.
Early on in the planning of La Casa’s farm we had considered a well, but were told that the water table was very deep in our area and would be very costly to reach. The experience of another children’s home close to us to dig a well, caused us to discard this as possibility. But God knew our needs and a few weeks ago, He sent Carlos Molina (Country Director from Living Water) to inquire about our situation. In April they told us that a well could be attempted but we would need a sponsor. Within a couple of weeks and many praying,
Chik-fil-A out of Houston said they would pay for our well.
Preparations were made and equipment was in place to begin drilling on Monday, May 9th in the afternoon. The next day by 4:30 pm they had reached a depth of 35 meters (113 ft.) and hit a rock. After some forcing, they heard the rock drop into what sounded like an underground cavern and then the rushing of water. This frightened those drilling and they quickly dropped a plastic Coke bottle down the hole and left the area for fear that the entire area could cave in. Within an hour they returned to find the bottle had risen to within a few feet of the surface because of the force of the water. This was great news because the depth indicated that the water should be clean and the amount was significant.
By Wednesday, we had our well (hand pump) and the promise to have a more reliable and affordable source of water. The only thing that was missing was the funds to finish by placing an electric pump in the well and connecting it to our cistern and water pipes for the farm. On Saturday, May 21st we received an email that a ministry partner would cover the cost. We are so grateful for those that God used to answer this great need for us. Thank you Chik-fil-A, Living Water, GlobalX and all of you that prayed for our need!

Una fuente de bendiciones
El año pasado entre los meses de Septiembre y Octubre, el costo de servicio de agua potable se duplicó de repente en El Salvador. No tuvimos tiempo para prepararnos y lo que ya era para nosotros una carga económica fuerte, empeoro. Esto aunado al hecho de que estamos en la plena época de verano lo que implica que debemos será un mas diligentes en el manejo de este precioso liquido.
Cuando planificábamos el manejo de La Finca habíamos considerado abrir un pozo, pero nos habían dicho que las Fuentes de agua de la zona donde se encuentra ubicada La Finca son muy profundas y seria muy caro excavar hasta allí. La experiencia de otro hogar de niños cerca de nuestra finca al hacer un pozo nos llevo a descartar la posibilidad. Pero Dios conocía nuestras necesidades y unas semanas atrás envió a Carlos Molina ( Director Nacional de Living Water) para conocer un poco mas acerca de nuestra situación. En Abril, nos dijeron que podrían intentar abrir un pozo pero que necesitaríamos un patrocinador. Unos días después y después de mucha oración Chik-fil-A desde Houston se ofreció a pagar el costo del pozo.
Se realizaron todos los preparativos y se trajo todo el equipo para comenzar a excavar en la tarde del Lunes 9 de Mayo. Al día siguiente, alrededor de las 4:30 pm ya habían alcanzado la profundidad de 25 mts. (113 ft.) y llegaron a una roca. Después de hacer varios esfuerzos, escucharon que la roca cayo en lo que parecía una caverna subterránea y después escucharon un torrente de agua. Esto asusto a los trabajadores, tiraron una botella de soda en el orificio y se alejaron del lugar pensando que toda el área se podía hundir. Pasada una hora , regresaron y encontraron la botella unos metros bajo la superficie debido a la presión del agua. Esto era una maravillosa noticia ya que la profundidad indicaba que el agua seria pura y en una cantidad significativa.
Para el miércoles, teníamos nuestro pozo (con una bomba manual) y la seguridad de que tendremos una fuente de agua pura y abundante. Lo único que nos hacia falta eran los fondos para colocar una bomba dentro del pozo para conectarla a nuestra cisterna y bombear el agua a La Finca. El Sábado 21 de Mayo recibimos un correo electrónico informando que uno de nuestros socios de Ministerio cubriría los costos.
