Do you have friends who have remained faithful over the years? Those friends hang with you, through the celebrations and through the tears. They don’t run away just because life gets hard or someone else comes along. They are friends who stay.
That is how we view our faithful partners who send teams down to work alongside us. We are on the middle of a busy summer of teams, and we are thankful for our friends, our partners.
At the end of June, we hosted a medical team who has been one of those faithful friends and partners, with La Casa almost since our beginnings. Dr. Knight, Chair of our My Father’s House International board, has spear-headed organizing a medical team almost every year since La Casa’s conception. Along with another medical team that comes earlier in the year, they help provide bi-annual clinics as an outreach to the community in which we live. Working alongside local doctors and dentists, they have provided medical check-ups, dental care, eye exams and medicines. Simple medicines and vitamins, glasses and dental care are often things our neighbors do not have access to.
And they do all of this in love. They begin their week by visiting our neighbors to enable the team to better know the needs in the community before hosting or attending to patients. They serve our neighbors during the clinic days and even make a few “house calls” to neighbors who are unable to come to the clinic. They listen, they pray for and provide for their medical needs.
They had a few extra hours on their last day and dig in to help clean up the dust that had accumulated on and in all of the cabinetry and closet areas in our new Joy Home that just finished construction. They helped us to hang curtain rods. They prayed in the rooms of the home for the houseparents and children who will live in the Joy Home. They were hands and feet ready to do whatever was needed.
It’s a beautiful picture when we come together to serve others. Thank you Virginia Medical Team for your hearts and faithfulness!
