When you face something new, do you tend to shrink back and stop short or do you press on and go for what is best? This year, some of our children moved to new schools. The new schools had higher expectations and that meant stepping up to the plate, putting in extra time studying and learning to keep pressing on even when they yearned for the “easier” life.
We are proud of all of our children for their efforts and pressing on; it’s not easy to move to a new school. We’d love to share with you the stories of two of our young people who have risen above the challenge and are excelling, Jason and Elba.
Jason has struggled in the area of learning in the past. He has fought dyslexia and attention struggles. He’s had more than his fair share of difficulties in life and has ridden the roller coaster ride of emotions that goes with hard times. As we moved to the farm right before starting a new school year, he and his houseparents decided that it was time for a new school choice were he would go to the same school as the other older boys in our home. This school was more academically challenging, but we had seen such growth in him that we had confidence he could make the jump. He hasn’t had grades below passing this year, and we are two-thirds the way through the year. He has taken responsibility to do his homework, study and be attentive in class. He is choosing to take full advantage of a new opportunity, showing us all that he is moving forward…towards a bright future.
Elba has also struggled with learning difficulties in the past and has had more than her fair share of trauma as well. In years past, her housedad has sat hours and hours with her to get homework and studying completed. Last year she began to work independently and had an excellent year. This school year, we moved all of our girls to a Christian school closer to where our farm is located, asking all of our girls to enter a new school and reach towards higher goals. Elba could have chosen to think that this was too hard, beyond her reach; however, she is shining in her class. She has excellent grades and her teachers are raving about her enthusiasm, humble spirit and cooperative attitude. She has chosen to not stop short.
What can we learn from these two young people? Press on…the best is within your reach. Never stop short thinking that the pastures of an easier rode are good enough! We invite you to pray for all of our children as they enter their last months of the school year. May they each continue to press on and finish well.
Cuando te enfrentas a algo nuevo, ¿tiendes a echarte para atrás y quedarte en un lugar confortable o te presionas a ir por lo que es mejor? Este año, algunos de nuestros chicos se trasladaron a nuevos colegios. Estos nuevos colegios tenían mayores expectativas lo que significó que debían meterse en la jugada, invertir tiempo extra de estudio y aprendizaje y seguir exigiéndose incluso cuando querían optar por la vida “más fácil”.
Estamos orgullosos de todos nuestros chicos por sus esfuerzos y por que siempre quieren dar lo mejor aunque sabemos que no es fácil el cambio a un colegio nuevo. Nos encantaría compartir con ustedes las historias de dos de nuestros jóvenes que han superado toda expectativa pasando por encima del desafío y están sobresaliendo, ellos son Jason y Elba.
Jason ha tenido problemas en el área de aprendizaje en el pasado. Él ha luchado con la dislexia y ha tenido problemas de atención. Ha tenido que manejar dificultades mucho más grandes de las que nos imaginamos y ha experimentado una montaña rusa de emociones con los tiempos difíciles. A medida que pensábamos en mudarnos a La Finca justo antes de comenzar el nuevo año escolar, él y sus padres de hogar decidieron que era hora de optar por asistir a un colegio diferente y nos informaron que se iba a integrar al mismo colegio que los otros chicos mayores en nuestra casa. Esta decisión implicaba un reto académico, pero habíamos visto tal crecimiento emocional en él, que eso nos daba la confianza suficiente para que pudiera dar el salto. Hasta ahora no ha aplazado ninguna materia este año, y ya llevamos dos terceras partes del camino. Él ha tomado la responsabilidad de hacer los deberes, estudiar y estar atento en clase. Ha tomado la elección de sacar el máximo provecho de una nueva oportunidad, el nos demuestra que se mueve hacia adelante … hacia un futuro brillante.
Elba también ha luchado con dificultades de aprendizaje en el pasado y ha tenido su parte de traumatismos también. En los últimos años, su padre de hogar se ha sentado horas y horas con ella para conseguir terminar la tarea. El año pasado comenzó a trabajar de forma independiente y tuvo un excelente año. Este año escolar, trasladamos a todas las niñas a un colegio cristiano cerca de donde se encuentra nuestra finca, un nuevo colegio con la responsabilidad de llegar a metas más altas. Elba podría haber elegido pensar que esto era demasiado difícil, fuera de su alcance; sin embargo, ella está brillando en su clase. Elba tiene excelentes calificaciones y sus maestros hablan maravillas de su entusiasmo, espíritu humilde y actitud de cooperación. Ella ha optado por no detenerse.
¿Qué podemos aprender de estos dos jóvenes? Siempre busca lo mejor… está a tu alcance. Nunca te limites a pensar que ya lo diste todo! Te invitamos a orar por todos nuestros niños ya que entran en sus últimos meses del año escolar. Que cada uno siga dando lo mejor de sí.
