Getting to experience the bigger world outside our own small worlds often grows our admiration, respect and wonder of God and His greatness. This past week, 16 adults from Atlanta, GA gave a week of their vacation time to come and serve at La Casa de mi Padre and have just that opportunity.

Their service project was to help paint, put in lights and fans, and to help purchase cabinets for the kitchen area of the small home being built on the farm.   Finding reasons to praise our Lord was not difficult as some of the most beautiful nature scenes were all around as they eagerly began their work. One could look out back of the home and see the chapel nestled among the trees. As this group climbed ladders, even up on the rooftop, they could see abundant views of fruit trees and flowering trees dotting the landscapes along every hill in view. God’s creation is magnificent…and a motivator for hard work. From trying to figure out the electrical wiring in a foreign country to learning a new technique of painting, they never gave up! The efforts of this great group helped to complete the home, a home started back in June and has been an ongoing project up until now. Being a part of seeing the finished project somehow encourages the soul.

However, being part of encouraging other souls can be even more rewarding. This team not only put in long days of physical work, but they invested in the lives of our children, our staff, and our neighbors. They had many activities planned to intentionally engage with our kids. From memories (and sore muscles) of intense soccer matches to hairbows, duct tape purses, and polished nails, everyone tucked a special memory inside. They also blessed our neighbors around the farm by purchasing and delivering basic food items as they showed our neighbors that they are valuable. Then, they concluded their week by sending our tias aand tios off to the beach for the day while they watched our kids. We are getting ready to head into vacation time from school, when days with our kids can get long and tiresome. It was a day to show encouragement as well as appreciation for the daily investment of pouring into lives.

God is always at work around us, in us and through us. Thank you Northpoint Adult Team for leaving us so well loved on!

Experimentar el mundo fuera de nuestro propio contexto a menudo aumenta nuestra admiración, respeto y nos permite contemplar las maravillas de Dios y su grandeza. La semana pasada, 16 adultos de Atlanta, GA dio una semana de sus vacaciones para venir y servir en La Casa de mi Padre y vivir esa experiencia.

Su proyecto fue a ayudar a pintar, poner las luces y ventiladores y ayudar a comprar muebles para la cocina de la pequeña casa en construcción en La Finca. Encontrar razones para alabar a nuestro Señor no fue difícil, ya que algunas de las escenas de la naturaleza más bellas eran lo primero que veían al comenzar su trabajo. Por la ventana trasera de la casa se puede ver la capilla enclavada entre los árboles. Como este grupo trabajó incluso hasta en el techo, pudieron contemplar los abundantes árboles frutales y los árboles en flor que salpican de colores los paisajes a lo largo de cada montaña a la vista. La creación de Dios es magnífica … y motivadora para el trabajo duro.

Desde tratar de averiguar el orden del cableado eléctrico de un país extranjero hasta aprender una nueva técnica de pintura, ellos nunca se dieron por vencidos! Los esfuerzos de este gran grupo ayudaron a completar la casa, un proyecto que comenzamos en Junio y ha estado en marcha hasta ahora. Ser parte y ver el proyecto terminado de alguna manera alienta el alma.

Sin embargo, al ser parte de alentar a otros puede ser incluso más gratificante. Este equipo no sólo trabajó largas jornadas de trabajo físico, sino que invirtió en la vida de nuestros chicos, nuestro personal y nuestros vecinos. Tenían muchas actividades planeadas para participar con los chicos. Recuerdos (dolor en los músculos) de los partidos de fútbol intensos, peinados, bolsos de cinta adhesiva, uñas pintadas, todos guardamos recuerdos especiales. También bendijeron a nuestros vecinos alrededor de La Finca mediante la compra y la entrega de alimentos básicos, mostrándoles que son valiosos. Finalmente, concluyeron su semana enviando a nuestras tías y tíos todo un día a la playa mientras ellos se encargaron de los chicos. Nos estamos preparando para el período de vacaciones escolares, cuando los días de nuestros chicos pueden ser largos y tediosos. Fue un día para dar ánimo, así como reconocer su valioso trabajo diario.
