The Bridge, our transition home, opened a little over a year ago. As with most new adventures, this first year has been a year of learning. We’ve moved from having house parents live at the home to having our young adults live more independently, as if living in an apartment, and overseen by Kathy Porter, our Bridge coordinator.
We now have five young adults living in the home, four who have graduated from high school and one attending adult learning classes to obtain her high school diploma. Two of our young ladies are studying at a university and our two young men graduated from high school and are preparing to begin their studies. We will soon have seven in the home, as two girls who recently turned 18 are beginning to transition into the home and move from La Casa to the Bridge. Our oldest male resident recently moved out to begin a year of service committed to a local ministry called YWAM, Youth With A Mission. So, as you can see, our home is a busy place.
Our vision has been to assist our young adults in reaching their full potential as they discover and step out into God’s will and direction for their lives. As part of this journey to independence, our young adults have begun to look for work experience. They have attended workshops to help them think through life goals and how to begin applying for work opportunities. Three of our young adults at the Bridge are now working either part or full time. We would like to share with you pictures that show the joy that comes with meeting goals you set for yourself in life. We give praise to our Heavenly Father whose work is all about restoring lives!
¡Entrando al mundo laboral!
El Puente, nuestra casa de transición, abrió sus puertas hace más de un año y este tiempo ha sido una nueva aventura como también una etapa de aprendizaje. Los jóvenes pasaron de vivir bajo un modelo de padres de hogar a un modelo de vida más independiente, conviviendo en un apartamento bajo la supervisión de Kathy Porter nuestra coordinadora de El Puente.
Actualmente tenemos cinco chicos en está casa, de los cuales una joven está cursando un programa acelerado para obtener su título de bachillerato, otras dos chicas están estudiando en la universidad. En cuanto a los varones, dos de ellos están preparándose para comenzar sus estudios superiores y el mayor de todos ellos inicio recientemente un año de servicio comprometiéndose con en el ministerio JUCUM, Juventud con una Misión. Pronto tendremos siete jóvenes en El Puente ya que hay dos chicas que ya cumplieron su mayoría de edad y se irán a vivir a nuestra casa de transición ¡Como pueden ver tenemos un ministerio muy ocupado!
Nuestra visión ha sido de poder apoyar a nuestros jóvenes mayores de edad para que ellos puedan alcanzar su máximo potencial y así descubrir la voluntad del Señor para sus vidas. Como parte de este proceso de independiencia ellos han comenzado a buscar empleo para tener experiencia laboral, han asistido a capacitaciones para desarrollar un plan de vida y tener conocimientos de cómo aplicar correctamente a una oferta de empleo. Tres de nuestros chicos en El Puente están ahora trabajando ya sea a medio tiempo o a tiempo completo. Aquí les compartimos algunas fotos que nos llenan de gozo al ver que sus metas se están cumpliendo ¡Agradecemos a nuestro Dios todo poderoso que trabaja cada día restaurando sus vidas!
