During the month of June, we had a party. Two of our girls had celebrated a special birthday this year, turning fifteen. And a fifteenth birthday is a big deal in Latin culture. It is a time when becoming a young lady is celebrated with family and friends.
Many times, the difficult pasts of our children leave scars that dig deep into their self esteem. They wonder if there can be a tomorrow free of those scars. We believe that there can be and one way to show our girls that truth is by loving big.
We have learned that the heart behind the party can mean a lot. With the help of a visiting team, our girls were able to choose a special dress for the celebration and the girls, their housemom and staff made decorations and prepared a special meal.

En Junio tuvimos una gran celebración. Dos de las niñas de La Casa celebraron un cumpleaños especial, sus quince años. Y es que cumplir quince años es todo un suceso en Latinoamérica. Es un momento en que convertirse en una jovencita se celebra con la familia y amigos.
Muchas veces el pasado difícil que han vivido los chicos dejan cicatrices profundas en su autoestima. Se preguntan si puede haber un mañana libre de esas cicatrices. Creemos que si, y que una manera de lograrlo es mostrarles cuanto las amamos.
Hemos aprendido que el corazón detrás de una celebración lo es todo. Con la ayuda de un grupo que nos visitó en esos días, las chicas escogieron sus propios vestidos para la celebración y junto con la mamá de la casa y el staff, elaboraron toda la decoración y prepararon una comida especial.
