January is not only the beginning of a new calendar year, but Back-to-School month for the children in local schools here in El Salvador. The calendar rolled over and we hit the ground running to get all of the children we serve back into another year of learning and growing. That means, we paid enrollment fees for 25 children and young adults, gathered supplies from that office-sized monstrous list of items that they must take with them, made sure everyone had undies, socks, belts and shoes, fitted everyone for their new school uniforms, picked up school books and workbooks and covered them all in plastic so the weather does not destroy them before the end of the year. Sorted supplies and put them in backpacks. Made sure everyone had a lunchbox and water bottle. Seems like an afternoon out on the town? We wish! It actually takes several weeks to get everyone ready for that first day out of the door and into school.
But….we have been blessed by a special group from the GlobalX team in Atlanta, Georgia who every year come, bringing with them many of the items on their supply lists, and help us push through that last week before school starts. They sit with each child and help them cover their books, workbooks and notebooks in plastic. They have conversations and get to know our kids, making each child feel special about the start of a new year. And that takes several days. On the last day, they celebrate the last day of summer vacation by hosting a field day and handing out backpacks.
This year was no exception. Many on the team were returning friends, who now feel like family. Others, we got to know. But each gave their whole hearts to us for an entire week.
So here….enjoy a little peak into Back-to-School at La Casa. And then take some time to pray for our children. Many are beginning a new year at a new school. They need to be brave. They need to choose friends wisely. They need minds that can focus on learning and perseverance to make it through the school year. Thanks for being a prayer warrior for the children, the parents and our whole staff!
Estamos agradecidos por los grupos que vienen a trabajar con nosotros y nos animan!
Enero no es sólo el comienzo de un nuevo año en el calendario, sino el mes de regreso a clases para los niños de los colegios locales aquí en El Salvador. La fecha llegó y empezamos a trabajar para que todos los niños a los que servimos regresaran a otro año de aprendizaje y crecimiento. Esto significa que pagamos las cuotas de inscripción para 25 niños y adultos jóvenes, recolectamos todos los suministros de esa lista gigantezca de artículos que deben llevar consigo, nos aseguramos de que todos tuvieran ropa interior, calcetines, cinturones y zapatos, todos tenian sus uniformes nuevos, adquirimos libros de texto y libros de trabajo y los forrmos con plástico para que el clima no los destruyera antes de fin de año. Clasificamos los suministros y los pusimos en cada mochila. Nos aseguramos de que todos tuvieran una lonchera y una botella de agua. ¿Parece una tarde de compras? ¡Ojalá! En realidad se necesitan varias semanas para que todos estén listos para ese primer día de clases.
Pero….hemos sido bendecidos por un grupo especial del equipo de GlobalX en Atlanta, Georgia que viene cada año, trayendo con ellos muchos de los artículos en las listas de útiles, y nos ayuda a tenerlo tod listo. Se sientan con cada niño y les ayudan a forrar sus libros y cuadernos con plástico. Conversan y llegan a conocer a nuestros niños, haciendo que cada niño se sienta especial sobre el comienzo de un nuevo año. Y eso lleva varios días. El último día, celebran el último día de las vacaciones organizando un día de juegos y repartiendo mochilas.
Este año no fue una excepción. Muchos de los miembros del equipo eran amigos que volvían, y que ahora se sienten como en familia. Otros, vienen por primera vez. Pero cada uno nos dio todo su corazón durante una semana entera.
Así que aquí…..disfruta de un pequeño vistazo al Regreso a Clases en La Casa. Y luego te agradecemos si tomas un tiempo para orar por nuestros chicos. Muchos están comenzando un nuevo año en una nueva institución. Necesitan ser valientes. Necesitan elegir a sus amigos sabiamente. Necesitan mentes que puedan concentrarse en el aprendizaje y la perseverancia para pasar el año escolar. Gracias por ser un guerrero de oración por los niños, los padres y todo nuestro personal!
